Samadhan Evaluation
In Delhi I assisted a colleague with the evaluation of the work of a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) called Samadhan. This organisation provides services for children with mental handicaps in low income group areas of Delhi. There are two centres offering education for the children.
The Dwarka site has two classes for mentally handicapped children (children with Severe Learning Difficulties- SLD). An Occupational Therapist and doctor visit regularly to offer support for the teaching staff.
There is also a ladies group formed of adults with SLD who package spices for sale locally.
At the Dakshinpuri site the adults make paper mache toys and mobiles to sell.

Assembly time. Singing the National Anthem
One of the projects is to identify local schools and introduce the concept of inclusive education. My colleague and I accompanied two members of staff from one of the Samadhan centres to a local school where they raised awareness of the need for integration and the need to be accepting of others who may be different to us.
